LAKE GOD TEMPLE Located at the northern foot of the mountain near the Yuncheng Salt Lake, the "China Dead Sea",the Lake God Temple was first built in A.D.777,or the 12th year of the reign of Emperor Li Yu of the Tang Dynasty.According to history records,Emperor Li Yu once granted a title of "Baoying Lingqing"to the Yuncheng Salt Lake and decided to build a templi near the lake.He also granted a title of "Duke Ling Qing "to the god of the lake.
The Lake God Temple is magnificent and majestic in architecture and is of a unique style.Unlike ordinary temples, which are usually in a vertical line, the three main halls of the Lake God Temple;the Wind God Hall, the Lake God hall and the Sun God Hall, are arranged in a left-right manner. It is so unique an example in the world that it fully deserves the repution of "Unique Copy" of Chinese architectural art for temples. The three main halls represent the necessary natural elements for the salt production:Rainfall, solarization and disturbance of the lake water by the wind .The Lake God Temple is the sole thmple which was built by the government for an enterprise at that time. This well shows the significance of the salt industry in feudal society.
